Is Dexamethasone Advisable For A 18 Month Old Infant?

Hello, my 18 month old daughter was diagnosed with croup today. Our pediatrician perscribed 1 (4)mg tablet of Dexamethasone but said most cases of croup do not require it unless the child absolutely cannot breathe. She advised not to use it unless absolutely necessary. Does this sound about right?

The Dexamethasone should only be given if she develops wheezing or stridor and if she only has a cough I wouldn't give it to her.

That said it would be an appropriate dosage for her
