Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My doctor took me off Prilosec and put me on Omerprazole. This new medication is not working. Then he put me on another medication Rabeprazole......this gave me pains in my stomach, my heart felt like it was racing and I was constipated all the time. I took myself off this med and went back to my Prilosec and I feel so much better. Would you recomend the medication Dexizant for my GERD problem?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
The drug molecules of different modes of action so far as PPI action is concerned vary in their potency, efficacy and final results depending upon many biochemical as well as host factors.
It may be possible that one person is having excellent results with Dexilant and the other is not comfortable with the same.
I would recommend a trial period of 5 days for Dexilant as then evaluate the results of symptomatic control on your own.

Your Prilsec and Omeprazole both contain same medication. If you are not getting relief means avoid it. You can use Esmoprazole or Lansaprazole in place of Rabiprazole. Please consult your doctor he will examine and treat you accordingly.
Take care.
