Is Dubowitz Syndrome Genetically Passed On From Mother To A Child?
I adopted my daughter and her sister when they were 2 and 3. The younger daughter has dubowitz syndrome. The older daughter has learning disabilities. Their biological father has dubowitz and their biological mother has moderate ( MoMd) handicapping conditions. My older daughter (27) is now pregnant. What is the probability of her not haviing a child with a) Dubowitz Syndrome or b) some other handicapping condition? Thank you
There is an altered piece of genetic material that causes Dubowitz syndrome. For a child to have Dubowitz syndrome both parents must have this altered piece of genetic material.
If she does not have this altered piece of genetic material, regardless of whether her husband has the material or not, their child will not have Dubowitz syndrome.
If she has the altered genetic material and the child's father also has the altered genetic material, their child has a 50% to 75% chance of not having Dubowitz syndrome. The probability of having a handicapping condition depends on which condition the child has.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
