Is Duloxetine The Right Medicine For Chest Infection?
hi my mother as been put on this medication in hospital not sure why, as she went in with a chest infection and breathing problems she was in for 5 weeks the reason why I m asking you is that she is rambling on saying people are talking to her and saying things to her as if it is real she is taking 20mgof duloxetine twice aday plus her normal medication thanks
Hi & Welcome. i appreciate your concern for your beloved mother. Duloxetine is not the right medicine for the chest infection. It's a serotonin nor-epinephrine re-uptake inhibitor (SNRI) used to treat major depressive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, urinary incontinence, neuropathic pain & fibromyalgia. She seems to be suffering from psychosis ('schizophrenia'). She needs to be evaluated by a psychiatrist and a proper treatment like atypical antipsychotic drugs may be needed. For the treatment of chest infection usually the suitable antibiotics are prescribed depending upon the organisms responsbile for the infection. Hope this will help her.
