Is Duphaston The Safe Medication To Postpone Periods?

Hello Dr. My wife started to take duphaston to delay her period until she finishes Ramadan so she can fast the remaining days from Ramadan? My question is it safe to take? Or she should stop specially after she started to have some side effects like bloating, breast tenderness and backpain? Thanks

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

To me should continue if she started Duphaston. The symptoms she is experiencing (bloating, breast tenderness, back pain) are due to hormonal changes from Duphaston use. They will stop once periods will appear. Take ibuprofen for the pain or mefenamic acid.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Albana Sejdini, General & Family Physician
