Is Erythromycin Safe For Small Bump On Eyelid After Chalazion Surgery?
I had a chalazion surgery for my right upper eyelid 3 days ago, a small bump is still there and some redness. Doctor prescribed me with an erythromycin ophthalmic ointment for 2 weeks and will get another surgery for my left eye done 2 weeks from now. Is it normal to have the bump? It s so annoying I want it to go away fast. What should I do?
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. The reason why you are having a small bump and redness following chalazion surgery on the eyes is due to the presence of inflammatory reaction. Erythromycin is an antibiotic, which has been prescribed for use to prevent infection of the wound, which would aid in better healing. Small bump will be there for some time and it would gradually subside once the complete tissue remodelling takes place. You can also use antiinflammatory opthalmic drops like Flurbiprofen thrice a day for two weeks along with artificial tear drops. You need to protect your eyes from dust by wearing closed glasses for a couple of weeks. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best.
