Is Exelon Advisable Orally For A Dementia Patient?

What is the better option if person with early dementia is giving their own melds. The patch or oral?

Also, patient is on propranolol. This is a beta blocker, correct? Is excelon contraindicated?

I thought this was free information.

Hi,

No, excelon is not contraindicated in dementia.
Rivastigmine will not cure these diseases and it will not stop these diseases from getting worse. However, rivastigmine can improve thinking ability in some patients with these diseases. However, as Alzheimer's disease gets worse, there will be less and less ACh, so rivastigmine may not work as well.

A patient who is on a total daily dose of 6-12 mg of oral rivastigmine may be directly switched to Exelon Patch 9.5 mg/24 hours. It is recommended to apply the first patch on the day following the last oral dose. Yes, propranolol is a beta blocker.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
