Is Fentanyl Safe To Be Taken While On Percocet For Chronic Back Pain?
My fiancé has chronic back pain and been on pain management for many years. He is currently on 6-15 mg Percocet daily and was also taking morphine. Today instead of morphine he s been given a fentanyl patch 25 mcg/hr to use with the Percocet. What side effects or interactions should we be concerned with adding the patch?
Hi and welcome to Healthcaremagic. Thank you for your query. I am Dr. Rommstein, I understand your concerns and I will try to help you as much as I can. Fentanly patch will intensify the effect of analgesia and sedation and it will lead to increased sleepiness and drowsiness so you should avoid driving during this time. Other side effects include nausea, diarrhea, headache or breathing difficulties. This is generally small dosage of the patch and these side effect should be minimal so you should not be worried about it. it is just important that his pain is managed appropriately and effectively. I hope I have answered you query. If you have any further questions you can contact us in every time. Kindly regards. Wish you a good health.
