Is Flucloxacillin Suggested To Treat Abscess Behind Ear?

i am a 19 year old female. For the last 3 days i have had a small abscess behind my left ear. I went to see a triage nurse at my local doctors surgery and she prescribed me flucoxacillin. Since starting the course i have felt very unwell (only today) e.g feeling sick, headache, light headed, throbbing ear. I am unsure of whether these symptoms are normal and whether i need to seek urgent or further help?

Hi...
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns...

As per your complain it seems like you have side effects of antibiotic Flucoxacillin and the symptoms seems of lightheadedness, headache and sickness seems to be due to it while throbbing in ear can be due to the abscess causing radiating pain to ear..
You should stop taking Flucoxacillin and take anti-allergic medication like benadryl to relieve the allergy symptoms..
You can take another antibiotic that does not belong to penicillin group like Cephelexin, ciprofloxacin etc.
Take painkiller like Diclofenac potassium for relieving ear throbbing..
You should also clean the abscess with an antiseptic solution and apply a triple antibiotic ointment and a steroid ointment over it..

In case if it does not shows signs of resolution in 3 to 4 days consult a Physician and he can do an incision and drainage to remove the infected pus along with antibiotics and painkillers..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
