Is Fluconazole Advisable For A Cancer Patient To Treat Thrush In The Mouth?
Hi: My wife finished chemo and radiation- the last being PCI on Oct 25. She had infections that were treated with Ambicylin sp and now she developed Thrush in her mouth. Her oncologist recommended 200mg of Fluconazole tablets- does this sound correct? YYYY@YYYY Lee -thanks
So sorry to hear about your wife's problem and will try my level best to resolve it..
As per your complain Oral Thrush or yeast infection can occur due to a number of causes and in case of your wife it is a combination of poor immunity, intake of antibiotics and may be a dry mouth that is commonly seen after radiation and chemotherapy..
It can be treated with antifungal medications and Fluconazole is appropriate in this regard..
I would therefore suggest you to give her Fluconazole as advised by your doctor and along with it gargling with Nystatin mouthwash, sucking Clotrimazole lozenges and taking plenty of probiotics like Yogurt can help..
Hope this information helps..
Wishing her a soon recovery..
Regards,
