Hi I just had surgery on the inside of my lip dentist mistake or mine ...I had the damage removed and it was found to have a fungus in it. The surgeon prescribed Fluconazole I am taking Clopidogrel (Plavix) I looked at my script info when I got home noticed the problem Called Surgeon he said call Pharmacy they said call your Dr. My Doctor prescribed some cream, guess he forgot inside my mouth. I assume I have no choice but to take the Fluconazole and forgo the Plavix. I am 57 I have a stent due to high cholesterol I have had perfect blood work for 10 years after since taking Lipitor What do you Dr s think ? Thanks Joe
I can understand your concern. Yes, it is true that Fluconazole and Clopidogrel interact with each other causing serious effects to the patient.
You have taken the wise decision of stopping Clopidogrel while you are on Fluconazole. However, you are given Clopidogrel to keep your blood thin regarding heart or brain condition. So the condition of heart or brain should not worsen while you are healing the fungal infection.
Thus, I recommend that you consult your physician or cardiologist/neurologist who has prescribed you Clopidogrel for advise regarding stopping and starting the medicine. In addition, keep follow up appointment with the dentist to have check on the progress of the healing of the surgical site and fungal infection so that Fluconazole can be stopped.
I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. I wish you feel better soon.
Best, Dr. Viraj Shah
