Is Gabapentin Advisable Before Surgery When Diagnosed With Osteoarthritis?

I am currently taking Gabapentin, 300 MG a day for osteoarthritis. I will be having surgery on my foot on February 1st. Will I be able to continue taking this up to surgery and after because I will probably be given a narcotic pain medicine after surgery? If not should I gradually start to decrease the gabapentin?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi.

Speak to your doctor about this, if he chooses to continue it then he can choose a less strong narcotic to provide you with after surgery, and continue with the gabapentin, it is entirely up to your surgeon, so please do consult him/her.

Best wishes.
