Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My prescription drug coverage is changing. I am told Fenofibric Cap 135mg I have been taking will no longer be covered. Alternative that will be covered is Gemfibrozil. Don t see comparable dosage to Fenofibric. Is there one? Are risks and side affects the same for either medication? Thank you.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Fenofibrate and Gemfibrozil belongs to same family of fibrates and almost have similar efficacy. It can be used interchangeably. The efficacy and side effects are almost similar and there will not be any issues while switching between them. You can take Gemfibrozil.
Wishing you good health.
Thanks
