My sister-in-law was diagnosed a few months ago with CML Leukemia. She was placed on Novartis Tasigna but was taken off because her LFT were not good. However this could have been because she was also taking Chantix (sp???) to help stop smoking. She is off Chantix, her LFT is good, and she is going back for more tests this week and the plan is to put her back on Tasigna. She is being treated at the Cleveland Clinic. I was doing some research tonight on Tasigna vs Sprycel (dasatinib). I also wanted to look at what treatments were available in Philadelphia at Fox Chase and Jefferson. When I went to their web sites they only talked about Gleevec which is an older drug. I understand both Tasigna (nilotinib) and Sprycel are now considered first line treatments but both Jefferson and Fox Chase only discussed treatment with Gleevec on their web site. I'm very confused. What are the benefits of using Gleevec over the newer drugs?
Hello . Thanks for asking question. All three drugs gleevac, tasigna and sprycel have been approved as first line drugs for CML. In the long run no drug has a survival advantage over other and one may start treatment with any of these drugs. So you need not to worry about. regards
