Is Glyburide Advisable For Diabetes In An Elderly Person?

I just went to a specialist for a lump on my thyroid. (Evidently OK) During my conversation with this doctor he asked how I was controlling my Type 2 diabetes. I told him I was taking 2 Metformin 500MG, 1 in AM and 1 in PM and 1/2 Glyburide 2.5 in PM. Quarterly readings are between 5.6 and 6.0. I am 72 and he says men my age should not be taking Glyburide. I haven t met with my doctor yet, (next month). What can I substitute for Glyburide?
