I had a HIDA scan yesterday. When they were trying to get a set of pictures of my gallbladder emptying into my duodenum, it took over 45 minutes. I had to try moving several times in different positions, getting up and walking, taking small sips of water, and they would try and get a picture in between each and nothing was happening. This seemed odd to me and the tech seemed like he was puzzled why it was taking so long also. This was before I drank the Ensure. I’m just wondering what this could mean. I’ve had an ultrasound that showed no stones.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
HIDA scan is little bit complicated when compared to normal ultrasound and take little more time compared to ultrasound. It is superior to ultrasound to detect the structural abnormalities and diseases of gall bladder and bile duct. We have to take different pictures after consuming tracer to get clear outcome.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
