Is HIV Test Done 24 Hours After Exposure Conclusive?
Hi.. I am really concerned I might have HIV.. I had unprotected sex on November 4th.. and this guy didn t seem too honest. I haven t gotten any symptoms but as time went my tonsils got swollen for a bit.. I went to the doctors and got tested 24 after possible contact... It came back negative... Now I m concerned because my neck feels really tight.. thyroid feels funny... Hard time sleeping.. no appetite .. I don t know what to do
I can understand your concern. What you are experiencing might be an upper respiratory tract or bacterial throat infection that may come under control with antibiotics such as Azithromycin 500 mg (Azee) once a day for 3 days.
However, as you have engaged into an unprotected sexual intercourse, it is better to rule out HIV. One negative test after 24 hours may not suffice to confirm you as HIV negative. The soonest the antibodies for HIV can be detected in blood is 3 weeks and it may take up to 84 days to show positive. Thus, you should go for antibody testing after 21 days and if it comes negative, you should repeat the test at the interval of 3 months. If that test comes negative too, then you can consider yourself as HIV negative. This test is 97% confirmatory.
I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. Let me know if you have follow up questions.
