Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My Mother is 80 years old and she is taking 5 500 mg Metformin per day, I know that she is on blood pressure meds to, but I don t know what type. Her A1C was 7.1 according to her recent lab results (non-fasting). She was told by one doctor that it was too high and told by another that it was okay because of her age. Do I need to get her to another doctor or try more meds. She doesn t want to take the ones that she has been prescribed already, more might cause her not to take them at all.
Hi I understand your concern. Thank you for contacting healthcare magic. HbA1C of 7.1 is high. It indicated the control of blood sugar in the last 3-4 months. If she is on metformin for diabetes then she most likely needs some other medicine too for control of her blood sugar levels. Hope you get what I am saying.
