Is Hydrocodone An Effective Medicine For Pain Management?

Someone told me they were prescribed a medication that is a 40 milligram of hydrocodone pill. Is there such a medication. I am not a drug user but I was curious if there was such a medication. I had a bad back problem and they went in an burned my nerves, but was given 3 days worth of a pain medication called norco, it was a 5 milligram and was to take as needed, I never needed it because the pain was not that bad to use the medication, so I was wondering if there is a medication out there like I have asked you about. To me that is slot of medication to be taking no matter what pain a person would have unless it was a elderly person whom a doctor is trying to keep comfortable if they were not going to be in this world much longer.
