Is Hydrocortisone A Useful And Safe Topical Treatment For Phlebitis?

I am male, 60 years old, in shape, non-smoker, active. I ve just had a second episode of phlebitis in my left leg in two weeks. Doc says that they are not serious. Is Preparation-H (hydrocortisone) a useful and safe topical treatment for phlebitis? I am applying warmth and keeping the leg elevated when possible and also wearing an over-the-counter compression stocking. I am currently on Naproxin Sodium, which is an anti-inflammatory and it occurred to me that that is exactly what Prep-H is.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello sir, concerning your problem of phlebitis you are on right track of treatment with antiinflammatory drug and local compression stockings etc. If it is causing serious problem then only go for anticoagulant treatment ( coumarin or heparin) or surgical resection. Its more likely that you will be benefited with the drugs prescribed to you. There is not much role of Prep H.
