Is Hydrocortisone An Effective Medication For Phimosis?
Doc I am a 70 y.o. white man with no history of sexual problems. I do use a 5mg dose of cialis daily for prostate hyperplasia. My problem is my penis foreskin is getting tighter and tighter over the past 3 months. Will 1% hydrocortizone alleviate this problem?
Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Your symptoms could be due to partial phimosis. You can use 1% hydrocortizone but after proper evaluation by urologist. Improper hygiene, fibrosis and deposition of segma can cause problem. I would suggest to consult urologist an undergo examination to rule out the problemBefore using treatment, examination is must.
Treatment will depend on severity and clinical examination. Partial phimosis can be treated by steroid ointment. It should be apply after hot bath and then foreskin should forcefully pulled back under supervision. Maintain proper hygiene and clear segma regularly by using warm water. Complete phimosis require circumcision.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Sagar
