Is Hydromorphone The Right Medicine For Chronic Back Pain?

My new pain management Dr. put me on hydromorphone 2mgs. after being on oxycodone 10 mgs. for years. Arthritis and chronic back pain. Since taking the hydromorphone, I have no desire to do anything, no energy and feel depressed. He also started me on neurontin. I never felt this bad taking oxycodone. Is this normal?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Persons react differently to medication. It is possible to have this reaction to an opiate.

It would be best to revisit your doctor to let him or her know that you are not able to tolerate the new medication so that you can be given an alternative.

I hope this helps
