I-pill (levonorgestrel) a synthetic progesterone is very effective (up to 94%) in preventing an unwanted pregnancy following an unprotected sexual act or after contraception failure. To be more effective one pill should be taken as soon as possible but within 72 hours of unprotected intercourse and the second should be consumed 12 hours after the first. A single pill may not be effective. Her next period may be normal at the expected time or it occur later or earlier also. She might also have irregular bleeding or spotting until her next period.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
