Is ICD Compulsory For Treatment Of Low Ejection Fraction?
In 2010 I had a ejection fraction of 23. After 14 months of meds and clean habits I fully recovered back to 56 The symptoms prior to treatment were very obvious, now 12 months ago (2015)I felt some deja vous and got checked. I was at 35, so I chose not to take meds and see if it would recover. True after the first recovery I went back to some habits but not like before so I thought cleaning up those habits again would bring it back to where I wanted it. Well unfortunately it got worse and I m at 18. So I decided to go back on the meds. They are asking if I would consider an ICD but I m wondering if I should first wait to see if the meds will do the job. I have been on them for 2 weeks now. The thing is I feel great considering. I sleep well, yes I m tired if I put a full day in but nothing like the first time in 2010. I actually feel strong. So my question is a) should allowing time with just the meds be ok for now and let time see if things improve before putting in the ICD?
ICD will increase longevity most likely. But sudden cardiac death is the main risk with a low EF, so, the defibrillator is just a good idea. It will not prevent healing and increasing the EF.
