Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is IV Antibiotic Merrem Advisable When Diagnosed With Klebsiellae And Morganella Infections?
I was recently diagnosed with Klebsiellae and morganella infections. I am on the iv antibiotic Merrem. Idvthis the right drug for me. They have changed my antibiotic 2 or 3 times. Also I was told that I have a delayed allergic reaction to penicillin drugs.
Intravenous merrem (meropenem) is found to be effective against the infections caused by gram-negative bacteria bacteria such as klebsiella and morganella and hence commonly prescribed. Further, there is no documented evidence of any cross reactivity between merrem and penicillin hence it may be taken safely even if you are allergic to penicillin.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
