Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My endcronologist recommends reclast interveneous....is this safe? I did the Forteo for two years about 9 yrs ago, shots in stomach. I m almost 70 yrs old. If I decide to do this treatment, should I increase my Calcium to 1500 mg 2wks prior to IV and 2 wks after? Also should I increase Vit D, 2000 i.u. 10-20 days prior to IV? Thank you!
Reclast is a quite effective and safe drug. No. Doubt it may have side effects. Certain minor side effects like body aches, chills etc may be common, but any serious side effects are rare.
If calsiun is normal, you may not need to take calsiun for two weeks before it's used but yes we recommend intake of at least 1200 mg of calcium and 1000 units of Vit D daily with its use for both St results.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Mahboob Ur Rahman , General & Family Physician
