Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is LAD Diagnosed From ECG Reversible By Making Lifestyle Changes?
I'm a 29 year old pilot. I recently underwent an annual medical and I was found to have LAD from my ECG. I was told this was nothing to worry about given my age but I would need a repeat ECG after one year. I have noticed that I have experienced heart "flutters" now and then. I drink approximately 5 or 6 coffees a day and have done so for a few years. I have also been flying long haul for several years. Can I make changes to my lifestyle and is LAD reversible?
Hello, Welcome to HCM and thanks for your query. LAD may be a normal variant, particularly in obese or stocky individuals Other common causes of LAD include left ventricular hypertrophy, left anterior fascicular block (or hemiblock) or it may be associated with Wolff-Parkinson-White Syndrome. Your heart flutter is probably due to the caffeine or anxiety. WPW syndrome also can cause arrhythmias. It is good to repeat the ECG when you have the symptom or do a Holter monitoring to know the type of arrhythmia. I shall be happy to answer if you have more queries. Dr Noble Zachariah
