Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello Is Levofloxacin 500 mg for 21 days for a Varicocele condition on the left side of the groin area. Is this a preferred tretment approach. I am hoping not to have a surgical procedure however I am not seeing any research that suggest that this may resolve my problem. ANy thoughts or research comments? Thanks Marc
Levofloxacin is an antibiotic. It is used to treat a number of bacterial infections. Enlargement of the veins within the scrotum is called 'varicocele'. Levofloxacin medication is not given to treat your varicocele. Since infection could be associated with this condition, antibiotics has been administered. Kindly take the medication as prescribed for 21 days.
Open surgical ligation, performed by a urologist, is the most common treatment for symptomatic varicoceles. However, varicocele embolization is a non-surgical treatment performed by an interventional radiologist. It is as effective as surgery with more advantage like less risk, less pain and less recovery time.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Ashakiran S, General & Family Physician
