Hello,
Welcome to Healthcare Magic.
I have read your question fully and understand your concerns.
Lisinopril is a BP reducing medicine. It is not used for the treatment of
hiatus hernia. Do you have high BP?
Hiatus hernia is a condition in which a small portion of the upper part of the stomach squeezes into the chest area through an opening in the diaphragm. AS a result of this stomach acids go into the food pipe and cause irritation of the food pipe. This causes heartburn.
To minimise heartburn, take small meals more frequently. Avoid spicy food, high fatty food and hot food and drink. Wait for at least 2-3 hours after eating before lying down/sleeping. Raise the head end of the bed to keep your head at a higher position than your abdomen. Avoid carbonated drinks like coke/pepsi, soda and alcohol.
Treatment is by antacids like Gelusil/Gaviscon, you can take this 3-4 times a day and at bedtime. You can also use drugs which reduce the production of acid called
Proton pump inhibitors (PPI). Take
Lansoprazole 30 mg/
Rabeprazole 20 mg/
Omeprazole 40 mg once a day in the morning, preferably on an empty stomach for 3-4 weeks and see. Instead of PPIs, you could also try
Ranitidine 150 mg twice a day for 3-4 weeks.
If your symptoms still do not settle with either Ranitidine or the PPIs after trial for 1 month, kindly see your doctor.
I hope this answer has helped you.
Thank you
Regards
