Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am getting terrible cramps in my toes, feet and lower legs. I have been taking Lipitor 20 mg. On a visit to m y doctor today, he recommended Livalo 2 mg. Reading the side effects of it, it seems to me it may not be better. What do you suggest I take for cholesterol that will not have so many side effecys? Thanks!
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Livalo is a brand name of drug "Pitavastatin" and it is newer drugs in the family of statins. Livalo is a water soluble drug compared to Lipitor (Atorvastatin), which is fat soluble and hence got very minimal muscle related side effects like cramps. Overall side effects are also minimal for Livalo, so I suggest you to take Livalo instead of Lipitor.
Wishing you good health.
Thanks.
