Is Losartan Potassium Advisable For A Anemic Patient?

I was prescribed Losartan Potassium 50 mg. but I have so many problems taking medications, that I would like to cut one in half and try that the first time I take it, to see if I have any problems with it. I had been on Lisinopril 10 mg. and had terrible side effects from it, and I have had problems with medications for other things also. I was diagnosed with anemia last week, but the Dr. has been out of the office, so I am to call them tomorrow about that, though there was no blood in the fecal test I did. Anyway, I was to start the Losartan last week, and kept putting it off, but thought maybe I would try it tonight. I just don t want to take the full dosage, but I don t know if that is OK or not. I could wait and ask the Dr. tomorrow, but I have had headaches the past few mornings when I woke up, so I thought perhaps I shouldn t wait another day. Thank you.

Hi,

I don't know what side effects you had with Lisinopril, but fortunately, most people who take Losartan do not have any problems with it. I would recommend you take the full dose as your doctor prescribed, but if you wanted to take a half of the tablet to see if there would be any side effects, that should be alright too. Also, having anemia shouldn't affect taking Losartan at all, so you don't need to worry about that.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
