Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is Losartan An Effective Alternative For Amlodipine?
I take 1-Losartan/HCt 50-12.5 each morning and 1-amlodipine 5mg each night. I am traveling and may not be able to refill my Losartan (I had just refilled and apparently left it at home) Would I be able to take an extra amlodipine in the morning to replace it? How long can I go without taking the Losartan?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
I would like to tell you that, yes you can take Amlodipine in the morning to replace Losarten. But you need to get Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 from local pharmacy to avoid pedal edema if it happens with you after using Amlodipine.
Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
