Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is Macrodantin The Right Medicine For Bladder Infection?
I have had secondary progressive MS for 37 years. I have been prescribed Macrodatn (2x100mg daily) by my Urologist to treat recurring bladder infection due to self catheterisation. Recently I have experienced increasing balance problems. My Neurologist has advised caution as Macrodatin is toxic to the nervous system. Should I stop treatment with this drug?
To those with similar symptoms, I recommend the following: 1) You can stop Macrodantin. 2) You can take tab. Norflox instead. 3) Norflox for 5 days. 4) Norflox doesn't harm your nervous system 5) Norflox is used to treat both complicated and uncomplicated urinary tract infections.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
