General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi,
Megestrol is a hormone preparation that prevents interlining of the uterus (endometrium) from growing thick (which is shaded off during periods) with the uterine endometrium the endometrium growing outside uterus(endometriosis) also stops growing.
As a result there is no ovulation, no or scanty bleeding &symptoms of endometriosis also go away!
Your doctor is trying to reduce &perish endometriosis with Megestrol therapy.
Naturally, there won't be any chance of conception while on therapy. Please be patient. Follow the treatment meticulously. You would conceive after the problem is over & that would be better for pregnancy too!
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Vasudha Jayant Athavale, General & Family Physician
