Is Meloxicam Prescribed For Dislocated Elbow Safe?
my girlfried dislocated her elbow a few days ago. They prescribed meloxicam. 15 mg tabs once daily. She is worried about the possible side effect. She asked for steroids and thats what they gave her. How risky is taking the meloxicam? We just put a wrap of apple cider vinegar, olive oil, 2 egg whites and some sage on to try to help with the swelling.....
Thanks for asking at Healthcare Magic. I read your question and I understand your concern. The most common side effects of meloxicam is Peptic ulcer... stomach/duodenal ulcer. Analgesic nephropathy with long term use as patients with osteoarthritis. The risk of meloxicam induced peptic ulcer increases if it's use concomitant with steriods, smoking and alcohol. It also increases with frequent use, increase dose or age greater than 70 years. The risk can be decrease by taking with two to three glasses of water, avoiding smoking, alcohol and steriods. Concomitant Proton Pump inhibitor like esomeprazole 40mg daily can be use in order to be on safe side. I would suggest to use only meloxicam with above instructions. Hope it helps best.
