Is Methadone Usage Advisable Without Doctor S Advise?
Hello.I am doing my research paper on How effective is methadone without counseling?I have worked with drug addiction for over 26 years.I would like to have more information on methadone or brochures??? I know you are busy, but I would greatly appreciate it.I have called SAMSHA and trying to get State Regulations for Indiana no luck yet.
No....not at all. IF the person doesn't get off the drug in the long-term, the may be at higher risk for the following long-term effects:
Impaired judgment. Sexual dysfunction. Respiratory problems. A bloodborne disease like HIV (associated with injection use without sterile precautions).
These symptoms tend to build and develop over time. Overdose from methadone is a major concern and continues to be problematic. Mixing methadone with other substances that slow the body like alcohol and benzodiazepines increase the risk of breathing problems and death.
To avoid these unwanted effects, people using methadone should only take the substance as prescribed and alert their physician to any symptoms experienced.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. AJEET SINGH, General & Family Physician
