Is Methylprednisolone A Safe Medication For Osteoarthritis And Fibromyalgia?

My doctor prescribed methylprednisolone for my osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia that I ve suffered with for about 10 years. I was just researching the comments on this drug to see what side effects people have had. I m at my wits end and in extreme joint pain, stiffness and nerve pain all over my body. She gave me a second 6 day pak plus a 30 day prescription. Is it safe for me to continue this drug on a daily basis? I m also a cancer patient and don t want any other side effects. Thank you

Hi,

The side effects of steroids are time and dose dependent. So, It is common to give moderate amounts of steroids for a few days and this is quite safe. OR to give a low dose for a long time and this is fairly safe. Large amounts for a large time can cause diabetes, changes in fat, changes and deterioration of tendons, bones, and muscles. And will lower immunity. Depends on the size of the 30 day prescription. 5 mg is about the lowest dose per day. 10 mg isn't much different. 60 mg a day is a high dose for long term.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hello,

You can continue methypred. Nothing much to worry and your treatment is in the right track. If you are in pain analgesics like tramadol or hydrocodone can be added.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
