Is Metoprolol Advisable For A Stage 4 Kidney Disease Patient?
I have stage 4 kidney disease. To control high blood pressure I have been taking Valsartan. Losartan and Metoprolol. DR. has taken me off Valsartan and losartan. I have a built up of potassium. Raise in creatine ?levels and lowering my GFR. My BP is 180/70-80. Dr. told me if bp increases take more Metoprolol? All drugs I researched Meto as damaging for kidney disease? What is lessor of two evils?
Losartan belonging to ACE inhibitor group of drugs is always the better option in renal disease because it delays progression of renal disease. However, it has a major side effect of causing hyperkalemia (rise in potassium) in the body. In your case your doctor has rightly stopped losartan as high potassium in body can be life threatening. Metoprolol is a safe drug to control your BP as of now. it is the best alternative. Thanks
