Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is Metoprolol The Cause For Tightness In Chest And Water Retention?
My doc increased my husband s 50 mg. Metoprolol Tart from 2 tabs/day to 3 tabs/day. It s for his high blood pressure, however, it has not brought the blood pressure down and he s started having chest pain, tightness in chest, weakness, dizziness and water retention. My husband just found out yesterday that he now has an enlarged heart due to the water retention and is 3 points toward a stroke. He s on Lasix now and Eliquis 5 mg. 2X/day. I asked the doc about the Metoprolol and in a nano second he said he should continue at that same dosage. Could this med cause these other symptoms?
HI Well come to HCM I really appreciate your concern, in my opinion better to continue the medicines and dose decided by his physician and this is nothing to worry at all, enlarge heart can not be known without ECHO, ECG and X-Ray, what ever the symptoms your husband has may not be due to hypertension or cardiac disease, hope this information helps.
