Is Mucinex D Effective In The Treatment Of Throat And Nasal Congestion?
My father is 87 years old, afib, high blood pressure, recovering from stroke on 8/16 due to fall (hemoragic due to warfarin). He recently has been diagnosed with AML leukemia....Right now on supportive care until we can find clinical trial. He recently developed a throat congestion and cough with nasal congestion....A virus going around. Home health said lungs clear even though he wheezes from throat. I have been giving him plain Mucinex...At first it helped but he coughes alot and I am afraid with his platelets so low. Does Mucinex D help with drying up the mucus?
Mucinex D is helpful in productive cough as it loosens the mucus in lungs and helps in clearing it out. So it will be helpful in congestion. Apart from that I would recommend water vapor inhalation to relieve nasal and sinus congestion. Give him plenty of fluids, as it helps during viral infection.
Hope this answers your question.
