Is Mucinex Advisable For Chest Congestion In A Child?
i have a ten year old that is a bit stuffy. He was prescribed by a doctor to take two benadryls each night as he has insomnia and he also has allergies. he is a bit stuffy and I wanted to know if he can take mucinex for his stuffiness. He is a bit on the haevy side at 154 lbs and he is 5 tall
Understanding your concern. As per your query your child have symptoms of severe chest congestion which is due to sinusitis/ upper respiratory tract infection. As your child not getting relief, I would suggest you to take steam inhalation and use humidifiers. Give throat lozenges. You should give child mucinex as it is safe to use. Do warm saline gargles along with vaporizers. Your mother's symptoms will resolve in one week. Visit pediatrician once and get it examined if symptoms keeps on persisting. You should get chest x-ray done if cough and congestion will be there. Go for blood and sputum test as well. You should take diet rich in multivitamins and take cough expectorants.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Get Well Soon.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
