Is Nefazodone Safe For Depression?

I have been prescribed Nefazodone for depression. Another physician (family friend) tells me there are significant safety concerns, especially with liver function. I drink 10 ounces of red wine each evening, is this an appropriate drug for me? Thank you.

Dear
Welcome to HCM
We understand your concerns

I went through your details. Nefazodone is an oral antidepressant drug. Nefazodone affects chemicals in the brain that nerves use to send messages to one another, called neurotransmitters. The neurotransmitters that are released by nerves are taken up again by the nerves that release them for reuse.

The most commonly noted side effects associated with nefazodone are nausea, dizziness, insomnia, agitation, tiredness, dry mouth, constipation, lightheadedness, blurred vision, and confusion. Nefazodone rarely may cause liver failure that may result in liver transplantation.

Please avoid drinking alcohol such as wine, beer and liquor while taking this medication or any other medicines.
