I am using Obimet 500 mg SR since 10 days as I have been found to have type 2 diabetes. I find some p slightly coloured patch work under the skin in my arm from fingers to elbow. Is it reaction to the medicine or is it due to some other reason . what should I do.?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Pinak De's Response
Obimet 500 SR is metformin. This is a very good drug and has very few side effects if your kidney functions are normal. This is indeed the first line drug of choice in type 2 Diabetes. But sometimes it may cause erythema (coloured patch). You can stop the medicine and contact your physician for visual inspection of the rash and ascertain the proper cause.
Hope this helped. Do let us know.
