Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi. I was taking Norvasc for 3 weeks after admission to hospital with 202/107. Then I had cold virus, took cold & flu tablets, nose drops and blood pressure was again high, my doctor advised to double up Norvasc. At the same time I went to my local GP and he gave me a pack of Olmetec. Should I switch to Olmetec as I feel Norvasc doesn t work any more? I can have 150/90 early in the morning on Norvasc.
I appreciate your concern for the efficacy of Olmetec in the treatment of hypertension.
Incomplete data: Age, gender, the problem for which you were admitted in the hospital?
Yes, Olmetec is advisable for high BP.
Olmetec (Olmesartan) is an effective and safe drug in the treatment of hypertension especially in patients who have some underlying heart disease.
As compared to Norvasc, the side effects are less. Since your BP was not controlled with Norvasc, so it is better to switch to Olmetc which is more potent than Norvasc in reducing the high BP.
Hope to have answered your query.
