Is Omeprazole The Right Medicine For Chest And Back Pain?

Reading im certain my pain is non cardiac. I m on RX omeprzole & took this morning. However my textbook symptoms flared up after a later lunch on a very empty stomach which I ate too quickly. Now six hours later I still have chest & back discomfort. I have heat on now which is providing some relief. Would it be okay to take another omeprozole to help??

Hi,

While it is still possible that your pain maybe non-cardiac, it is advisable to visit a doctor and get an ECG done to rule out cardiac problems.

You haven't mentioned your age, so if you are aged above 35, the fact that your discomfort is radiating to the chest and back, is a worrying factor.

Omeprazole generally works for 24 hours and as such, an additional dose will not provide much relief. Try taking an antacid like gelusil and see if that helps. However, I feel, it is better if you could get an ECG done to rule out serious cause.
