Is Omlezest MA An Alternative Of Amlong A To Reduce High BP And For Cold Syndrome?

I am having Chronic Kidney Desease stage IV and taking medecines for that. I am also taking Amlong A for containing high blood pressure. I am also suffering from cold and sneezing syndrome frequently. Please advise whether Omlezest MA can be a suitable alternative of Amlong A to reduce high BP and also to avoid cold syndrome.

Hi
I am Dr Mittal
I have read your query
And will try to help you with it

Amlong A is a combination of amlodipine and atenolol
Olmezest AM is a combination of amlodipine and olmesartan

Atenolol and Olmesartan are two different medicines
Your doctor probably changed the medicine because of CRF.
The latter is safer in CRF.
It is also better because it prevents the remodelling of heart.

So I would suggest you continue the medicine.

Best of luck
Dr Mittal

Thank you for the query.
I would like to know your age, gender and whether you suffer from any comorbidities apart from chronic kidney disease.
Amlong A consists of Amlodipine 5 mg (a calcium channel blocker) and Atenolol 25 mg (a cardioselective beta blocker). These are relatively safe drugs in chronic kidney disease.
Olmezest AM (not Olmezest MA), on the otherhand consists Olmesartan (a ARB) along with Amlodipine. Olmesartan is not a preferred drug with CKD (specially with creatinine 2 mg% or more). CKD patients are also prone to hyperkalemia (increased potassium in blood) and olmesartan worsens this. This can cause cardiac arrythmia ( sometimes lifethreatening). Olmezest AM cannot reduce your cold symptoms. It needs to be dealt separately ( you might be having some allergy or sinusitis)
I would recommend you to continue with Amlong A as it is a safer drug with your profile.
Hope this helps you.
Regards
Dr. Ayusmati Thakur
