General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Orofer is an iron preparation medication which is given to correct hemoglobin levels in cases of anaemia. It can be taken safely for your condition.
However, it has certain side effects, particularly of GI tract and could cause nausea and vomiting caused due to gastritis. Stools may turn dark brown or black when you take this medication.
Gastritis can be minimized by taking medication after food and use of liquid antacid preparations.
In case the hemoglobin drops down below 6 g%, then you would require iron preparations to be given by injectable route.
Kindly increase consumption of iron through diet by intake of iron rich foods like dark green leafy vegetables and jaggery.
Keep your hemoglobin level checked once a month to look for improvement.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
