Hi doctor, i took my 5 year old child to dentist as he is having severe tooth pain. But he was highly uncooperative n treatment could not be done despite repeated convincing by dentist and me. So the dentist has asked me to give the child pedicloryl syrup before bringing for treatment so that he becomes drowsy n treatment can be performed. But plz advise me is this procedure safe for y child. R there any other precautions which i should follow while giving pedicloryl syrup. Thanks
Pedicloryl syrup contains triclofos which is a prescription medication used to treat insomnia. It also helps in providing sedation before any medical procedure, particularly in children in hospital setting only. It is usually given after other medications have failed to work. It is advised to take it at the same time each day as this helps to maintain a consistent level of medicine in the body. This medication should be taken in the dose and duration as advised by the prescribing doctor. Don't miss the dose, take it as soon as remember in case of missing a dose.
It is important that this medication is not stopped suddenly without consulting to the prescribing doctor as it may worsen someone's symptoms. It may cause dizziness and sleepiness, so don't drive or do anything that requires mental focus. It must be used with caution as it has a strong habit forming potential and leads to dependence. Pedicloryl syrup is safe for babies when it is taken at the dosage prescribed by the doctor for a particular condition.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
