Is Penadura Advisable For Frequent Throat Infection In A Rheumatic Heart Disease Patient?

Sir 10 yrs back, rheomatic heart disease was detected inside me. My doctor advised me to take penedura 12 la per month. After a year i discontinued to take penedura as there was no any problem due to that disease. But now i get frequent throat infection. No any other problem. Should i continue penedura again? Thanx in advance.........

penidure or benzathine penicillin is used in prophylaxis of rheumatic heart disease . dosing should be 15 lakh units every 21 days . if a patient have only rheumatic fever with out heart involvement injection should be taken til 18 yrs age , rheumatic fever with carditis til age of 25 years , rheumatic fever with valve involvement life long course , so depending upon ur heart involvement you have to take it .I can suggest you to get done 2D ECHO and depending upon the findings start the prophylaxis.
