Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi My NAME is vera, my son has had a cough for more then 10 days. I took him to see the doctor and he gave him a syrup and he said that the cough is going to go away. the syrup has limited the cough but still he wakes up at the night and cough for more the 10 mins. today i went again to see the doctor and he gave him Piriton syrup I was curios to know what type of syrup is this piriton and I checked online all I can see is good for allergies. I am scared he didn t prescribe the right one so this is my issue if you can help me please.Thank you
I have gone through your query and can understand your concern... Piriton syrup contains chlorphenamine maleate. It is usually indicated in cough due to allergies due to dust, mites, pollen, etc. Allergies are very common in children & antibiotics or other drugs are not necessary, if the cause of persistent cough is allergy. I would suggest you to continue taking this syrup because it is decreasing the cough. Therefore the cause of cough must be allergy. Un-necessary use of antibiotics & cough suppressants can be harmful to your child & must be avoided. Allergies could take several week to cure. All togethar you should continue this medication.
Refer to your doctor
Don't worry he would be fine Hope this information helps
